BMI Calculator

Calculate your Body Mass Index from height and weight. Shows both the standard WHO category and the lower Asian-Indian cut-offs recommended by ICMR, since South Asians carry more body fat at a given BMI.

Healthy weight for your height: 53.5–72.0 kg (BMI 18.5–24.9).

BMI is a screening number, not a diagnosis β€” it doesn’t distinguish muscle from fat. Indian bodies tend to carry more visceral fat at a given BMI, which is why ICMR recommends a lower β€œoverweight” threshold of 23.

FAQ

What is a healthy BMI?
The WHO calls 18.5–24.9 normal. For Indians, ICMR/health bodies suggest keeping BMI under 23, with 23–24.9 treated as overweight.
Is BMI reliable?
It's a population screening tool, not a diagnosis. Athletes with high muscle mass can have a high BMI without excess fat; waist circumference is a useful companion measure.
